Movie Mistake in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (possible spoiler alter)

.Raining today in New Orleans so we went to see The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. During the movie the title character seeks out the "old school" film photographer and finds him in the mountains of Afghanistan. The guy is sitting waiting for a snow leopard shooting an F3/T with an AF-S 300 f2.8 VR G lens.

If they can go to Greenland, Iceland and pretend to go to Afghanistan, couldn't they find a manual focus long lens to go with the film body? I am sure they could find and rent an 800 f5.6 or better yet and old school 1200mm?

Of course, when they switched to the viewfinder view, the cat was framed perfectly with such a short lens.

That took away from the movie for me.
