That is much better. The bokeh is a function of the relative distance of the background to the distance of the subject. My subjects are about ten feet away, but the background is between 50 and 100 feet - maybe more.  So, my backgrounds are rarely distracting.

Every photo is a little different because it's hard to get the exposure dead on with birds.  In LR, the apparent sharpness is affected by contrast, clarity, NR, and all the settings in the Sharpening module.  It's difficult to find the optimum, but getting close just takes practice with the sliders.

I now use the 70-400 G2 and it is razor sharp at f5.6.  However, I usually shoot at f6.3 or f7.1 just to get a tiny bit more DOF - and, it helps.
