Hi guys I bought a Canon EF-S  Lens 18 mm - 55 mm - f/3.5-5.6 IS MK II to replace the standard one it came with 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 DC III Lens. None IS

How do I know whether Image Stabilization is actually working on the Canon EF-S  Lens 18 mm - 55 mm - f/3.5-5.6 IS MK II Other than the On/Off switch, there is no indication.

I tried it on and off and there was no difference in ISO or f stops for the same shot. Nor is there any sound from it. And looking through the view finder, its just the same. On or Off

For give me if I am being daft. but I have never used a DSLR before. I can tell if its on or off on my compact camera, but I really think this lens from Amazon is doing nothing. (faulty) or am I missing soothing ?

Hi Colin,

Hand hold the camera.

Set the lens to 55mm.

Put the camera in liveview mode.

Turn on the IS switch.

Set 10x magnification preview. (use the mag glass button with a + on it)

Look at the image on the LCD, it should be shaking. (if not - your a rock !)

Half press the shutter button and the image should stabilize.

Hope this helps

Regards

Andy.
