Agreed. A wider lens will have less DOF and you may need to get in the face of the subject for a head shot And some blur. Getting very close for head shot can change the expression in the face and possibly make the nose look bigger. I would hold pat with what you have else you will take a bit of a loss. Cheaper to pick up a legacy manual focus lens. I have an old Nikon 28mm f/3.5 which cost me about $70 on ebay. A little wider and a compromise between 23 and 35, but I am sure there are other inexpensive choices if you do not mind manual focus.
