Need a lighting miracle....

I have been semi-obsessed with an odd effect of gels which can cause a thin gel stream to "bounce" - you can sometimes see this in thin streams of shampoo and so on. For example:

A falling stream of shampoo "bounces" off a tilted metal plate.

Or a video ....

But I'm having great difficulty getting useful images because of lighting issues.   Using a flash is a pain because of the cycle time results in a lot of lost images.   And it looks crappy.   I think some high intensity lighting might be the way to go and using continuous shooting, hoping for a lucky shot.

The effect is a little bit touch to set up, so I'd rather have the camera rolling allowing me to futz with the apparatus.   If you adjust the height of the source properly, it will stream contonuously, the pulsing in the video is due to it being too high up, and its "dripping".

I'm also going to mask off the edge of the metal plate ( its shiny aluminum. )

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
