It's all relative...

Funny, I don't think of that as 'huge' at all - considering my 300mm F4 APO lens is 3.10lbs, and with teleconverter is 3.5Lbs, the Tamron 150-600mm adds less than a pound (4.3lbs) yet increases the max focal reach to 600mm instead of 420mm PLUS adds all those other focal ranges from 150mm to 599mm!  All of that in 4.3Lbs sounds pretty lightweight to me.

I walk for many miles carrying both my Tamron 200-500mm lens (2.7lbs) and my Minolta 300mm and teleconverter (3.5lbs), plus my not-light A580...or I'm carrying my NEX & 55-210mm & Dh1758 1.7x TC (2lbs) alongside my A580 & Minolta 300mm + TC combo...so I'm regularly traveling at or over that weight when I go birding, and that's handheld, no tripod.

All I'm waiting to hear is how the IQ is wide open at 600mm, which would be my primary reason to get the lens and where it will get a vast majority of its use...if it's solid at that range, then it will be a wonderful replacement for my 200-500mm workhorse.
