I just learned something thanks to all your help. I just focused on a subject to my left by half pressing the shutter release, then recomposed with the focus point being dead center.  Loaded the photo using viewnx and it showed the focus point dead center.

So on the photo submitted what i did was lock focus on left and recomposed. Viewnx showed the "focus point" when i took the shot.

And I was sooooo looking forward to returning my camera to Nikon;-)
