Help on getting flat view in Macro Mode

Hi All,

I recently purchased EOS 1100D with 18-55mm lens. I bought this camera as I am a novice with photography. My intent is to work on clicking pictures of jewellery rings, engagement rings etc.

Though the camera produces excellent pictures for my need, in fact its too excellent. The issue which I am facing is that when I click picture of the crown of the ring, the base of the ring is out of focus. When I click picture of the crown, even the base of the ring upon which a diamond or gemstone is placed, is out of focus. So what setting should I use to ensure that even in macro mode, I get a flat picture.

I want the white background images only. I got a photo-tent, but have issue when I click picture from top view because the nylon threads of the tent are visible in the images, how do I remove the nylon threads from the image?

If you have any additional tips and tricks for creating images of engagement rings / wedding rings, please let me know.
