I've found many desktop monitors are horrible when it comes to color rendering. The colors change as the viewing angle changes which makes it impossible to even try to judge what the color looks like. 90% of laptops also have horrible screens.

Unless you use an ISP panel monitor (or find a -good- CRT, which will be better than most TN flat panels) and calibrate it yourself, you really can't judge color accurately.
