Re: GX7 review (my first review!)

thanks for the review. i got my gx7 several days ago, but i've been in the middle of a move and have managed less than a dozen shots with it. i also have the rx100 and the gx1 and have a long history of panasonic use back dating from the lumix p&s models.

you're right that the manuals are very inadequate if you like to customize and tweak as i do. i need to know what the camera is doing behind the scenes and for some functions i have no idea what's going on back there. just for one example, the first thing i do when getting a new camera (if it's possible) is to disable that damm focus assist light. no one can shoot available light candids with that lightshow happening. but it appears that if you use /ai/ or /ai+/ mode you can't disable it. i'd loved to be proved wrong and some might argue that's not the appropriate mode for those kinds of shots anyway and i wouldn't be able to argue against it.

anyway, what does /af on/ actually mean? the advanced manual only says 'shoot with auto focus'. wtf? that phrase has less than zero useful content and there's no context to try to suss out what they mean by that. this is for the /ae-af/ button and the other settings are to set it to /ae/ lock, /af/ lock, or its labeled function of /ae-af/ lock. i really don't find any of those other 3 settings useful the way i work so i'm hoping the 4th setting of /af on/ might be more useful.

btw, i find it easiest to hit the fn buttons at the bottom of the camera so i set them to /silent/ and /hdr/. for the gent wanting a place to park the wifi and wasn't using the touch-tab buttons, it sounds like he is using the auto sensing for the evf so he could set that button ?fn4? for wifi. i set my wifi to the bottom of the touch tab function buttons.

/guy
