AF phenomenon on the 70D: Can anyone explain?

Thanks for your tests... geez, that's a lot of shots! 

I'm gonna try to get my hands on a 17-55 / 2.8 and a 70-200 / 2.8.

Are you sure, the timer can be a problem? I pushed the shutter button manually, the camera counted down and shot. Then I de-focussed and pushed the shutter button again. That should have been enough time to reset...?

Regional problem sounds strange but not completely out of the question. May I ask what the fourth and fifth digits of your serial number are? In our forum, there are only "02" cameras mentioned, with and without the problem. I wonder if Canon has released any 01 or 03 models yet.

Unfortunately, it's late over here, so I can only comment tomorrow - gotta get up early for my daytime job. :-/
