There is no doubt that this is a fine macro lens, but there are some alternatives worth looking at. A shorter focal length macro lens may not have as large a working distance, and this is a disadvantage for shots of bugs. However, you don't need a long working distance for flowers, and there are advantages to shorter focal length macro lenses. I have found the Sigma 50 F2.8 macro is very nice for a trip to the botanical gardens, and works well for copying old 35mm slides. Another option is the Sigma 70 mm macro lens. However, you can't go wrong with the 60 mm Canon macro lens if you prefer that focal length.
