Pentax products are very fine, but Ricoh ...

Pentax is doing something right.

Not sure about K-3, but comparisons between 645D and D800 on imaging resource, despite of only 4MP difference 645D actually captures all the color details which D800 does not. (speckles on the label) - while that is MF with all that is possible given to the IQ, there may be some processing aspects where Pentax may be somewhat ahead of the curve, as even 645D "chips" are consumer level and pretty much what goes into the APS-C cameras as well.

In any case, the differences are not big, and do not matter to the majority of buyers, still there may be some aspects where they do it better. Regular folks appreciate bigger lens selection, faster AF and brand name more though.

common sense is anything but common

.. focuses their marketing efforts and locks them inside the Japanese grounds. So far. And that's a long time.

Hence in one way Ricoh was a good match for the Pentax brand to help it out, but on the other hand a horrible mismatch, because Ricoh itself was a 'terra incognita' in camera business outside the Japan.

Ricoh itself had no idea how to market *camera* business worldwide and has no sufficient experience in it.

I expect nothing significant to change for a while.
