The A7(r) cameras do this as well. Pentax could offer a slightly shorter registration and smaller medium format camera taking a page out of Sony's playbook. They could then sell an OEM adapter that would fit a K mount lens on it at the correct registration distance with the various "crop" modes. These can be overridden in the menus. Also 645 lens can be mounted as well. Broadcast the spec (again like Sony) and Novoflex & Metabones & others might make Nikon to Pentax adapters for the Big Tammys & Sigmas as well.

Cheers.

There's an elegant, non-adapter solution that can work. You can design a mirrorless lens that will fit into the existing space for the mirror with a minor modification of the body mounting ring (making it slightly wider overall with narrower mating ring that can still house the contacts). The new lenses for mirrorless won't fit into the "old" mount for SLR, but the old lenses would still work to full capability. Adapters - even expensive ones - rarely register just right; the only study done on this came up with the troubling news.
