Thanks for your comments and suggestions.  I'll go back and see if I can make the corrections you suggested.  Yes I did use the "Graduated Filter" tool in Lightroom and I must confess that I probably overuse this tool on too many photos.  If there is not enough cloud in the sky and it looks too uniform or too blue for my liking then I usually lighten or darken part of the sky to break it up. As far as HDR is concerned, it does take a photo from looking "real" to looking like a painting so it breaks many of the rules (sky doesn't have to be blue and snow doesn't have to be white) which is why I like it I guess.
