Help with VR on 70-300mm - three questions

1) With my D600, I usually shoot with a minimum shutter speed of 1/500. Does it make sense to leave VR on or off at higher shutter speeds. What is a minimum shutter you might use and turn off VR or do you always leave VR on.

2) When using a monopod, does it make sense to leave VR on or off.

3) When you leave VR on, do you use VR in active mode. I shoot mostly stationary subjects.

My questions are mostly related to the 70-300mm that I just acquired although I also have the 24-85 with VR.
