Digital split vs Focus peaking for manual focus
2

This morning I tested a Fuji x100s in a shop and I found a very interesting feature: digital split image for MF. I then searched the internet for some details and I found this very good article by dpr:

http://www.dpreview.com/news/2013/01/10/Fujifilm-X100S-digital-split-image-focusing-how-it-works

This feature reminds me of my 'ancient' Yashica fx-3. When focusing with this old camera you see two concentric circles in the middle, with a diagonal line across the inner one. If you point the camera towards a high contrast edge and adjust focus, you'll see that the parts or the image either side of the diagonal line move relative to one another. When the target appears to be continuous across the diagonal line, it's in focus. That was just brilliant, an almost rangefinder like experience.

Now fuji is bringing this to the digital world and it's doing that by means of phase detect sensors.

Since nx300 also hase phase detect af, it'd be really nice to be able to select among split image or focus peaking. Please, Samsung, implement this via fw update!

I find focus peaking better for smaller and well contrasted details, while digital split seems better to me for lower contrast areas.

It'd be good to be able to choose!
