It is a nice shot, Even at full zoom you should get f2.8. When you say ND built in do you mean you had it enabled? Possibly you had it on to slow the shutter speed for the water movement.

I would compare the LX7 with noise reduction set for priority on resolution and the EX2 which has no control of this. You can see heavy noise reduction in the EX2 at 100% and you may prefer the LX7 in this respect.

The EX2 is a top range camera as regards the mechanicals but the the firmware is very much mid range point and shoot so I would spend a bit of time seeing what you can do with the LX7 and what you can't with the EX2 before deciding on which you like.

lovely photo. Not bad for 1/8s handheld. I'd have to give up coffee for a couple of days before I could accomplish that steadiness.

what happened to F1.4? did you zoom in? That will increase the F stop.

Hi,

You are correct in the zooming. I thought for sure I shot @ 24mm but looking at EXIF it was actually 34mm which of course reflects the correct aperture.

Thanks

Hi Greynerd.

Yes, I used the built in ND filter to slow down the shutter. The variable aperture on these cameras is something I need to get used to as I normally shoot with fixed aperture DSLR Nikon lenses and I'm trying to remind myself every time I shoot to realize that changing the zoom will change the aperture. I have done some side by side comparisons with the LX7 and when shooting daylight, low ISO's, the EX2 renders a bit more detail IMO. At higher ISO's, the LX7 fares a bit better. The Samsung suffered from inconsistent WB when shooting auto ISO, however, I always shoot raw so it can be corrected on PP. Interface to me is close and not a run away with either. If I were to choose between these cameras for overall IQ I'd go with the LX7. I considered these two cameras for their low light capabilities and for that reason alone I will choose the LX7. If I wanted a camera such as these two for the feature set It would be the Samsung. Wifi is pretty cool on the EX2 but over all both these cameras are very good and it comes down to personal use.
