Pixels for quality printing... a question

Hi Everyone:

I intend to buy a high quality Epson printer (haven't decided which one yet) but I had a question. When I take raw images on my SD15 and save them as jpgs, and then load them into Photoshop, I have noticed that the resolution is 180 pixels per inch. From what I understand, a good resolution for high quality prints is 300 pixels/inch. Of course, if I convert to the latter resolution the images almost double in size. My question is, does it matter that my images are 180 pixels/inch? Will that impact on the quality of my prints? If so, what can I do about it... that is, is 180 the default? As you can see I am not quite versed in such matters.

Thanks for your help,

-Charles
