D7100 performs well, but noisy sensor spoils IQ...

After observing this forum for a while, the opportunity finally came yesterday to pick up a new D7100  c/w 18-140mm lens.

My first impression of the camera is very positive. However, being a JPEG shooter I was wondering if this camera is right for me.

So my question is whether one has to shoot RAW and PP every image? Or can the cam be set up for JPEGs only? (I'm aware of the picture control system)

What I have noticed from the default settings that Auto WB for JPEGs is not correct and normal NR at ISO 1600 or higher produces noisy results.

The WB can be corrected in custom setting, but I'm not so sure about the noise. So I'm wondering if anyone uses the D7100 for JPEG shooting only.

Here are a couple of snaps:

1. Full zoom 140mm at ISO 1400

Christmas Cactus

2. WA 18mm at ISO 1600 handheld (VR is great on this lens)

Christmas Scene

Thanks for your recommendations.
