I think photographic accidents and planned out concepts are equally creatively valid. That said, in my experience an accidental "good 'un" often leads to a refinement of what it is I like about the accident...so then it's no longer an accident but a technique. Just consider Lee Miller's darkroom "accident" that led to solarization. (Note: solarization was discovered independently by a number of different people going back as far the 19th century, but Man Ray and Miller firstdeveloped it as a creative technique.)
