There is some clipping on the festival lights in addition to the loco headlights. Shooting at ISO 200 will stop that clipping (leaving the headlights blown/clipped), while giving me maximum DR, ...

OK this thread's a day old but the OP was interesting to read.

My conclusion : switch your camera to AUTO, and always leave the best lens on it.

Never, under any circumstances, allow yourself to do anything with the ISO button. Your ideas are the opposite of sensible.

You could, if you wanted, go into menus and set the camera to have the max auto-ISO range, but do not ever, ever set the ISO yourself.

Now I'll go and read the thread ...
