Haha.. bought it, SEF42A!

Some go for more lenses, I've go for more Speedlites.

Sorry Adrian (northlondon43), after your much heartedly advice to me, but for a price that I really can't resist, I've just bought myself a brand new Samsung SEF42A flash with 1-year warranty for US$150 and together with a 58mm ultra thin UV filter throw-in.

I've knew that Metz 44AF-1 was the better speedlites, like what Eric (viking79) and some others has suggested in some threads. But Metz Singapore distributor did not bring in the NX version, so it is not available in Singapore. Buying it from overseas mean there will be no warranty coverage which make me hesitate to buy one.

Now some of the box opening pictures of my new SEF-42A. And for the shake of some people who are interested in how SEF-42A compare to other speedlites or was it look too big on a Samsung camera, I have also included the pictures of it with,

  • Attached SEF-42A on my NX300.
  • Compare it height side-by-side against Viltrox JY620, a GN40 @ 50mm manual speedlites.
  • Attached SEF-42A it on my NX300 and with Viltrox JY620 next to it at the same height.

Some head-up on flash guide number, the size & weight between the 3 speedlites,

Samsung SEF-42A, max GN42 @ 105mm, GN34 @ 50mm (higher GN than 44AF-1) :

  • Dimension : 70.0 x 98.5 x 96.5 mm
  • Weight : 220g (excluding battery)

Viltrox JY620, fixed GN40 @ 50mm (most powerful GN of the 3 speedlites at 50mm) :

  • Dimension : 72.0 x 122.0 x 101.0 mm
  • Weight : 320g (excluding battery)

Metz 44AF-1, max GN44 @ 105mm, GN32 @ 50mm (lower GN than SEF-42A) :

  • 73.0 x 130.0 x 106.0 mm
  • 306g (excluding battery)
