Comparing High ISO shots between S90 and S120 in different NR settings
1

I originally wanted to test high ISO shots with a S95 to get a handle on how much the IQ quality really changed with the S120, but I could only grab an S90 on hand.  Regardless, the results were still informative.  (I'm a newbie at this so apologies if I didn't pick a good scene to test these settings).

All shots were taken at ISO 3200.  The first is the S90:

No matter how many times I tried, I could not lock in a focus here.

Next I tried three different settings on the S120:  First is High ISO Noise Reduction at Low, then Standard, then High.  The focus here was immediate, even in the dark.

S120 High ISO Noise Reduction at Standard

At least as far as this shot goes, the S120 was the definite winner.  As far the difference in NR settings, my focus was on the readability of the text on the Starbucks mug. It's mostly clear and legible at LOW NR, slightly less so in Standard, and more noticeably harder to read at High.  The Low setting seems more crisp looking but just too unacceptably noisy for me.  Standard retains just enough detail to suit me, so I'll likely keep it at this setting.

Overall, this is not a camera I think I could comfortably take pictures with at a ISO higher than 1600 (unless I'm using a fast shutter speed), so I've set 1600 as my Maximum ISO.
