I use Custom Settings for that now

I have been toying with making a Different Checklist for different types of Photography. One for Landscapes, Events, Portraits, Studio, Street, and others.

Usually when I put work into a shot, the only thing that prevents it from being better, is forgetting some fundamental or a setting I usually use in a different way.

What do you think?

I take advantage of the three custom settings on my camera to preset them them for the type of situation I expect to shoot in.

So for example for handheld shooting in Aperture Priority, I've gone through all the available menu items and preset applicable items such image stabilization on, center point focus, etc.

For tripod shooting of landscapes in Manual mode, I have the stabilization off, ISO 100, adjustable focus points, etc.

Then I only need to remember to turn the dial to Custom Setting 1 or Custom Setting 2 and the rest of the settings are brought in automatically.
