Metering malfunction on XSI?

No, that's okay, you don't need to suppose I know what I'm doing.  LOL.  I almost always use M, but other settings vary depending on needs/situation.  I never made note to see if any specific settings cause it while others don't because the issue just started recently, after a few years of using this camera (and using different settings).  Just wanted to make sure it isn't a camera malfunction.  If not then no big deal.  I take several shots and do post work anyway.
