the D7000, D7100, D600 and D610 are enthusiast cameras and they have dual slots, so I wonder why Nikon put dual slots in those cameras if it wasn't critical

Because those cameras aren't based on style at all...they're based on giving as much bang for the buck as possible.  Again, you're paying a premium for the style of the camera and hardcore shooting features have taken somewhat of a backseat to that.

This camera is marketed completely different than those cameras.  You're comparing apples to oranges so to speak.
