Troy, NY, has an annual "Victorian Stroll" event that I plan to go to this year, and it runs until 5PM, which, given the time of year, will be dark by the time it wraps up. I am planning to wander around and take photos of people in their Victorian costumes, and just people and Troy in general (weather permitting, of course).

Since I will be moving around a fair bit, and there will be crowds, a tripod (or monopod) is not going to be an option. What tips do you have for shooting at night in this kind of setting?

I clicked on your gear list to see what camera you have, and maybe suggest a lens for the occasion. I see there that you have a memory card and that's all. I'm thinking you're gonna need more than that.

Maybe so, but what about your gear list?

I'm thinking that if I post a question looking for help and I don't want to mention my gear in my post, I should complete a gear list.

I never clicked on my own gear list so I just did. I saw there was a Nikon P7800 there. I don't know how it got there - I wonder if someone is about to donate one to me??? Reluctantly I deleted it.

A full gear list, name, address, and when you usually go out to the movies should be in everyone's profile.
