Thanks, and yes this is the way I think it is intended to work, and mine does too, most of the time.

But if you turn the camera on, without lens cap, while pointing (I mean very close, just inches) to a light bulb it should half open it. I tried with the 18-55 and albeit it's harder to see the iris, it does the same. A desk lamp should be fine. It doesn't do harm to the camera, so if you could do it just for testing purposes it would be great (I suppose bright sunlight should do the same). Thanks!
