The idea is that since there shouldn't be any motion when the camera/lens is mounted on a tripod, having IBIS on might cause a problem because it will try to correct a problem that won't exist. IOW it will get twitchy and start correcting for phantom shake. (BTW knew exactly what you meant by ISIS. I loved the temple too. LOL)
