I've been wanting something more than the point and shoots for sometime.

Years ago I had a decent 35mm camera and really missed the versatility of it. I just couldn't justify the price of a full size camera like the Nikon, Cannon, etc. Especially with the costs of the lenses. For the last few years I've had a Panasonic FZ-18. It was a decent enough camera but never really got me excited about using it much.

One day I was browsing on Amazon and they had the Panasonic GF3 on sale. I did a little research and decided it wasn't the camera for me, but the 4 thirds format sounded interesting and has a reasonable enough sensor size to produce quality images. I wanted one with a viewfinder and read the reviews on the G5 and bought one on Amazon for a decent price. I also got the basic kit lens, and the 45-150.

I've had the G5 now for a little over a month and am still learning. One thing I don't like about most cameras now days is the built in flash. It works but it's really harsh. I don't use flash often but when I do I'd like to bounce it or defuse it. I don't really think I need a TTL flash, but a decent bounce would do. Can anyone have any recommendations fora decent not too expensive flash?

Thanks,

Stan

I'm also new to MFT and have been looking exhaustively at old threads. It looks like the Metz flashes come highly recommended. I'm likely picking up one or two Metz 52 AF-1's, but if you're looking for something stronger, the 58 AF-2's are great. I don't have any first hand experience with them yet, perhaps somebody else can comment to give you more personal feedback.

The Nissin Di466 is decent, cheap and not too big. It will do TTL in the hot shoe of your G5 and can be tilted to bounce.

It also has a wireless mode where it is triggered off camera by the G5's pop up flash, but you'll have to set the power level on it manually and come up with some way to reduce the effect of the pop-up flash.

There are some attachments that allege to successfully bounce or diffuse a pop-up flash. Save your money. They do not do the job. The pop-up flash's power is just not enough to make it good enough for bounce work.

I have a G6 and I use an Olympus FL 36r on it to shoot bounce in average size rooms. It works great. I bought it used in the for sale forum of this website.

Thanks to all for the responses.

I'll check out the flashes mentioned.
