And ... it has been said lots of times already. It is not rocket science to get to that conclusion.

But ... it is not all that easy. There are already several mirrorless mounts/brands out there. And it looks like it is slightly crowded. A mirrorless Pentax with a new mount. What would that add to the world? If it is just a new mount ... not much. It will then be just another one ... that is quite late to the table.

Depends what they can offer... What are the main selling points/competitive advantages of Pentax brand?

1. Weather sealed bodies and lenses.

2. Compact bodies' dimensions (*smaller-than-average* DSLR).

3. Great lenses - both *standard* and Limiteds.

4. DA Limiteds are perfect match to smaller camera bodies. Here Pentax found perfect match between performance and size/weight.

5. Innovations and features @ democratic price.

The Limiteds is really a nice niche invented/developed by Pentax. I think that it is a great idea to introduce compact lenses to match Pentax compact weather sealed bodies. Although not all lenses are brilliant optically, mechanically they are superb and people are buying them. Neither Nikon nor Canon have something similar. OK, Sony does - but these are not really compact, but just expensive well-made Contax-branded lenses.

Now, if you made it, via some clever contraption, fully compatible with KAF2, including the screw drive, then it might add something. At least for us that have used K mount some years and have a nice collection of K mount lenses.

But, of course - fully compatible with Canon and/or Nikon mounts would be several times better for most photographers. So ... should Pentax make such a thing?

If Ricoh/Pentax do not catch the last *sans-mirror* train, they may be left with shrinking DSLR market. And the market will shrink even against users' wishes - just because producing *electronic marvels* (mirrorless cameras) would make more financial sense for manufacturers. Those will not necessarilly be cheaper than DSLRs, but size/weight benifits will be key arguments for potential buyers.
