Similar situation different outcome

Depends fully on your needs. I primarily shoot models, street and landscape. There's no real reason for me to have a big DSLR rig 99% of the time.

I had a 7D and multiple lenses, as well as a X-Pro1 and the first three primes for a while... realized I basically never used the 7D.

Sold the 7D+lenses, which afforded me the zooms, and X-E1 as a backup.

I use the X series practically all the time because of the light weight. Whereas I basically never took my DSLR anywhere (other than specific photo trips), because of the cumbersome weight.

I'm glad I made the decision I did. If someone else needs to keep their DSLR gear, more power to them. There's definite needs for DSLRs, but I don't have them myself.

(Edit: Also, has to do with personal finances... if I were rich, I'd have kept the 7D, upgraded to a 5DIII as well as built my X-mount series. But unfortunately I can't afford everything.)

I had a nice/full Sony Alpha system — full frame and APS-C — with most if not all the lenses I wanted. It served all of my photo needs — sports & wildlife, portraiture, landscape & nature, etc. — except for social photography. By social I mean parties, dinners, impromptu get-togethers, etc. I decided to pare down my system and get two separate solutions.

- Canon 7D and some L telephotos for sports & wildlife.

- Fuji X100 for the social stuff.

The Fuji X100 turned me on to the X-Pro1 and the Canon is only used on specialized shoots.

Personally, I think the X system is a bit too immature to be of use for general/all-purpose photography.
