What is acceptable noise is personal decision. What is acceptable to one person may not be acceptable to another.

What about acceptable dynamic range?

Who can say what is acceptable for everyone.  Photography is very much a subjective experience.

Would you ever have enjoyed more dynamic range from a single exposure?

Can you GET more DR from a well done HDR photo?  Undoubtedly. But would we "ENJOY" it more?  That is still open to personal opinion, needs, and goals.
