Is the Sony 16mm/F2.8 really that bad?

If you get a decentered one it's awful

I ended up with two decentered examples

This was my experience:

Sony admitted the decentering but refused to replace it (and could not repair it) as they said it was less decentered than their 'reference sample'

Be careful buying this lens because of the QC issues and that Sony aren't prepared to help you if you get a bad copy

If you get a good copy it is useable but not 'stellar'. I would say it falls on the lower-end of 'acceptable'. I wouldn't bother with it on it's own but with the Ultra-Wide adaptor it converts into a rather useful 12mm lens which just happens to tbe the same size as the 18-55 kit lens (nice for transport and swapping lenses in camera bag. The fisheye adaptor will add that effect to the 16/2.8 if you want a bit of fun
