Ian, In your example the DR will actually be less, and the SNR will be effectively less because after you crop you enlarge the image to the same display dimensions.  If you were to keep the crop correspondingly smaller,then yes, those things wouldn't change.

(there have been long, involved threads about this on dpreview - the first time someone hears 'cropping affects image DR', it doesn't sound right.)
