EX2F bug list
Nov 3, 2013
No this isn't a flaming complaint thread. I still like this camera. This is just an FYI for those interested or a place to record this information for the legions of EX2F owners.
I do plan on communicating with Samsung about this. There really isn't any excuse for a high-end compact having this many implementation issues especially one this well designed.
Feel free to expand the list with anything you have experienced.
These are the bugs I currently know about.
- Video at 1280x720, 640x480 in low light shows flashing frames as light changes. Normal 1080p video has shows no flashing with changing lighting conditions.
- 480fps video option greyed out on menu but still usable.
- Camera can get stuck in ISO 12800 mode or locked out of it in Fn menu. Normal menu works as expected. (yes 12800 is basically a joke, but it's a bug nonetheless)
- Shooting RAW+ at 12800 ends up with a corrupted 3M RAW image. The RAW should NOT be 3M as that is not the imager size. The RAW shows pink corruption when loaded into Samsung RAW converter and will not load at all in Lightroom.
- Only seen once - Corrupted image message displayed in playback mode and would not read card until it was powered off and then back on at which point playback returned to normal. No card corruption was present on Sandisk Ultra 16G which was verified on PC.
- Only seen once - "Classic" smart filter created alternating rows of pink (17 pixels wide) down far left column of image when converting to B&W. Original image was RAW+SF.
These aren't necessarily bugs but are certainly questionable quirks in the design.
- Hitting Wifi button - even by accident - during operation causes several seconds of lost time trying to return to normal shooting mode. The button placement on the right side of the dial-pad is a likely place to be pressed just gripping the camera. There should be menu option to disable WIFI button or switch to ISO.
- Any adjustment to image parameters such as contrast or sharpening cause the loss of Smart Filters and Face Recognition. There is no reason for this especially considering the normal settings for the EX2F degrade the image - as noted below.
- The normal image settings result in a heavily sharpened image introducing many artifacts into the final JPEG. Any attempt to reduce this results in lost functionality See item 2.
