[NX300] Something I noticed about the 'infamous' tiny buffer issue

As many (most) of you know, I'm very concerned, since the very beginning, about the tiny buffer for Raw files in the NX300. This is a very capable camera, but it's definitely sub-par (by a large margin) as far as buffer depth is concerned.

Today I noticed one thing and I did some researches to confirm my idea. All the other cameras have a different buffer depth for Raw only shooting and Raw+jpg shooting, with the latter resulting in less images taken in a row than the former.

Some examples. Sony RX1: 15 raw only, 12 raw+jpg. Sony A7: 28 raw only, 24 raw+jpg. I could quote many more examples, all of which have this "understandable" behaviour, in the sense that raw+jpg is obviously bigger than raw only, thus filling the buffer with less frames.

Now, NX300 has a limit of just 5, which is ridicolous when compared to others. That's a fact, but I want to go beyond that. This limit is THE SAME when shooting raw only AND raw+jpg. Why is that?? In Raw+jpg, 5 jpg images are - at least - as big as 1 more raw image. So when shooting raw only, the camera should theoretically be able to hit - again at least - 6 frames.

So, why oh why, 5 is the limit in both cases?

My idea is that this is a software limit. I can't understand why should this be the case, but it's the only answer I find for this. Bad programming, perhaps. Bad use of hardware resources, perhaps. For sure, at least 1 frame more could be achieved when in Raw only mode, if the limit is the actual memory used for the buffer.

Do you have any idea?
