canon teleconverter

I have two teleconverters but am not pleased with the quality with either...... one is a generic 2x TC from Digital Optics with a native 58mm thread that takes 77mm filters and the other is an Olympus 1.7x TC that was originally made for the C-5060/7070 cameras...... believe it or not the generic 2x TC actually seems to have better resolution and image quality with the HS20 than the Olympus does! But neither is all that good, and both are somewhat worse than the resolution of the camera itself without the TC. Spot metering is a must otherwise highlights will be blown even at DR400. One good thing with these TC is that they both dramatically reduce the DOF, making it extremely shallow, great for isolation of the subject- now, if only they resolved a bit better.......

Another negative and something I have to look at more closely with any future TC, is that the amount of magnification you get does not match the specifications with either TC- I dont know if this is because they weren't matched to the Fujinon lens or what- but when I took pictures with the Fuji lens, and then with each TC, the 2x TC only gave me 1.3x magnification and the Oly 1.7x only gave me 1.5x (yes, the Oly 1.7x actually gave me a slightly bigger image than the generic 2x, however the image quality was lower.) Also, AF was faster with the 2x generic- I even stacked the two TC together, and it can still focus, but it's a difficult combo to handhold (especially since the Oly TC has no rear threads so I hold it flush against the lens- maybe this is why the image quality is less than that of the generic TC- that and the rear lens element is smaller, since it was made for a 40.5mm wide lens.)

So, I have heard some on this forum are using the following Canon TC, and I was wondering what kind of image quality I can expect from it? It's available from B and H, I am hoping it is better than the ones I've used and it provides the rated 1.75x magnification. B and H also has the Raynox 2025 PRO, and while I would love to have 2.2x magnification, the 280 dollar price tag is a bit steep and the image quality is probably a lot less than the Canon at 110 dollars, no?

Here is the TC I was looking at:

Here is the Raynox

Only good things about the Raynox are that it takes filters and comes with a lens hood. Is the Raynox macro 2.5x attachment any good with the HS20? Here it is on B and H

Here is a filter that works on the Raynox TC
