Will Nikon be out of business in 5 years?

Is this the right question?

Maybe we need to look at it this way:

When people presume that Nikon will be gone in 5 years, they forget to mention that Nikon is currently profitable. They also fail to mention how hard this slump is hitting everyone else. They also don't have a good understanding of the Japanese business mindset.

Isn't it more likely that a bigger company with many more business ventures will get out of cameras? For Nikon, they can't afford to quit. They will stick it out as long as they can because they are essentially cameras. But Sony or Panasonic or even Olympus have the ability to exit cameras and still thrive.

So I think it's more likely that if/when there are exits and contractions, the companies who stand to lose the least will exit. Nikon has to stay in it to survive.
