I have tried to use the back LCD screen for framing with 3 cameras: Nikon D7000 Life view, Panasonic DMC FZ-200, and the GX7 . I wear glasses for reading at +3 diopters, and to be able to both see what I am framing and then maybe change a setting, I need see reasonably sharp both at arm's length and nearer at say 30-40 cm away. In bright light conditions, I found myself always "guessing" what I was seeing, and the ergonomics of holding the camera at arm's length was so shaky that many of the pictures I took this way were not really what I wanted to frame. Add to that that some shots were not waiting for me till I finally was able to decently frame them and also make sure the settings were what I wanted, I found myself shooting mainly in the automatic modes, just entrusting the camera to at least do a decent exposure. So my experience with shooting at arm's lenght was mosty one of "point and shoot and  get over with it" . Not so when using the EVF or OVF, where I can really include and exclude things from the frame as I wish, and control all the settings at the same time, and not worry about the sun glaring everything out.

I used the back LCD with the FZ200 and the GX7 only when I would shoot in awkward positions where I had to bend over or squat down (I am arthritic), or when sitting at a table doing some macro shooting of still subjects. For me the Viewfinder is a MUST in any camera.
