EOS M as a Remote Camera, How?

Has anyone used the M as a remote or time lapse camera?  How do you power the camera other than the on-board battery?  What are the settings you use to conserved power?  So far, I see these might be a good configuration:

LCD auto off: 15 sec.

Camera auto off: Disabled

LCD brightness: 1

Continuous AF: Disable

Focus mode: MF

Image Stabilizer: Enable
