Joe’s right that dye fading is mostly a myth these days. It’s true that unprotected dye prints will fade more rapidly than unprotected pigment prints. It’s also true that dyes require a compatible paper coating whereas pigment can print on almost anything. However, modern dye prints have very good longevity when handled correctly, and even pigment prints should be displayed properly to avoid fading.
