Re: the current "poor man's Leica"?

Cameras once known as "poor man's Leica" like the Minolta CLE, Contax G1/G2, Konica Hexar AF, Zeiss Ikon, Voigtlânder Bessa and so on are still top-notch cameras with quality far exceeding mainstream SLRs of their day.

The XPan/XPanII was as expensive as a film M, and a specialized camera, it was in no way shape or form a poor man's Leica.

In digital terms, the closest thing would be the Fuji X-Pro1 with the official Fuji M mount adapter. Of course, nearly all mirrorless systems can take M mount lenses with adapters, but the X system is the only one along with the Ricoh GXR to have an official adapter by the camera maker, and the discontinued Epson R-D1 was the only non-Leica M mount digital rangefinder, but its technology is far out of date now.

I wish Sigma would make an interchangeable lens DP Merrill with a M mount.
