I would hold off until 3.5.1 anyway, as there’s a white balance bug in 3.5 which turns raw images green.

Yes, I can confirm this bug. There is also a bug with full screen and multiple screens. If you set the secondary screen to display something (like 'Alternate'), everything becomes a mess. Great. Well done, Apple!

There are other apps to consider besides Aperture and Lightroom. If you have Photoshop, you can use the Camera Raw plug-in which has the same image adjustment tools as Lightroom, and there is also Capture One Pro, which many professionals use. I wouldn’t completely discount iPhoto either if you’re needs aren’t too demanding. It supports the same raw formats as Aperture, and even shares the same image library.

Sadly, I can’t in good faith recommend Aperture at this point. It’s gone four years without a major update, and Apple’s interest in the Mac platform seems to be suffering due to the success of iOS.

The day after a new version of MacOS X is introduced, that last remark seems a little over the top. Agreed, Apple does not seem to be interested in Aperture that much, but Aperture is not the same as the entire Mac platform.

There was also the gutting of iWorks for OS X for the sake of iOS. I keep thinking back to something Jobs once said before he returned to Apple, about how if he were in charge he'd milk the Mac for all it was worth and focus on the next big thing. Sigh.
