You might be right. I am not looking for razor thin DOF though but would like a clear subject isolation effect with a wider view.

You would be surprised how deep the DOF at 35/1.4 on FF is, if you do not focus too close. The background then is not obliterated but still recognizable, which has a lot of potential for interesting photos. Unfortunately, the bokeh can have double lines sometimes, and one has to be careful how too shoot.
