The Scoop On Sensor Cleaning?

Hey folks,

I own a Canon 650D/T4i, and though this camera supposed has an automatic sensor cleaning inside it, it clearly doesn't work as I've got some gunk on my sensor.

Since I use my DSLR for video, it is supremely important that I get rid of this dust, but I've never known the best way to go about it.

If I send it in to Canon, I'm without my camera for something like a week and they charge an outrageous price for cleaning the sensor. The camera store down the street charges 70 bucks for a sensor clean! This is outrageous.

By the same token, however, cleaning the sensor yourself can damage it and void the warranty, right?

What's the best course of action here that is safe for my camera and my wallet?

Thanks a bunch!
