Does the GM1 make any sense to you?

Frankly, I don't see the point of making a shirt pocket ILC.

Whenever you put any other lens on it, it just becomes a tiny camera with a big lens that won't fit in your pocket.

So I can imagine some people buying this camera, and never changing lenses, just using it as a high quality pocket camera. And when used that way, it certainly is a nice camera to have.

But this just makes me wonder why someone doesn't build a fixed lens M4/3 compact? We have fixed lens cameras with small sensors, and we have fixed lens cameras with 1", APS-C and even FF sensors, but no one has ever made a fixed lens camera with a 4/3 sensor. Perhaps the time for this product is now?

A camera such as this could compete with all the high end compacts (LX7, G14, G1 X, DP2, etc), but deliver better image quality in a very small package at a similar price.

If this camera had a fixed 12-32mm lens it could be even slimmer. That lens mount takes up some space. Sony proved this by creating a fixed lens FF compact (the RX1) with half the lens sunk into the body. If the RX1 was an ILC it would have been much thicker.

Clearly, this camera isn't designed to be your only camera. At least not for photo enthusiasts like us. No one will ever need to mount a 75-300mm lens on it.

I'm not saying this won't be a really nice camera, and if someone gave me one, it would always be in my camera bag. But I just don't see a camera this thick being useful as a carry camera. If it had a fixed 12-32mm lens, then perhaps it could be much thinner, and that design would have been more appealing for more potential buyers.
