Brian, I guess it comes down to the need to study really good photographs that appeal to me and then trying my hand at similar work.. then comparing mine to theirs and noting what theirs posses that mine do not.

And the other thing is to never settle for just OK shots..  I know they can't all be winners but sometimes I just need to slow down, concentrate, and visualize as I take the shot and also keep in mind what I might do in post.

The ability to 'see' the shot is more important than the gear used to capture it.
