I think lack of something like the canon L series is really a problem. Of course, samsung provide good body and good lens for an ideal price. But if someone want to upgrade to a better body or lens, he can't have one. Anyway, it is normal for a newborn system:)
L lenses are really a bit of a marketing gimmick. Sure they are well made but there are still bad copies. I know one person who went through 5 different copies of the same model L lens before he got one that actually performed as it should.
I don't think Samsung could justify a range of better made lens (weather sealed, metal bodies etc) in tandem to the current range.
Exactly! No all Canon L lens are good. They're just for fancy public appearance. I had the 70-200mm F2.8L before and it IQ didn't match my other 85mm F1.8, 100mm F2.8 Macro and the 200mm F2.8L.
Only thing thing that a 70-200mm F2.8L lens does, it looked impressive in the public with the size and the white color body, and that's all.
I can see there's some ppl demanding more from Samsung to do this and to do that. What they don't understand was, all that eventually end up something of "Much bigger money to spend" but only "Marginal need" which is doing nothing for a real good photography hobbyist to live with.
If one need something fancy or even luxury go for a Hasselblad, Leica system, or something cheaper like a Canon & Nikon FF DSLR with all the L, Red Line and Gold Ring lenses.
Something like an Oly was nothing but just ridiculous high price DSLM camera with tiny M43 sensor. I was a huge fans for Oly 35mm film cameras, given my dad & I owned more than 10+ bodies and plenty of their lenses. But when come into digital imaging, out of sudden Oly choose to switched to something beyond believable and understanding, the M43 format.
Oly produces something small & cheap but high prices, just for bigger profits margin? Or just to feed their top executives personal pockets? For any vigilance and rational thinking customer (like me?), I'll simply choose to stay away, isolate any Oly brand cameras completely.
